Instil love for country, teachers told

KEPALA BATAS: Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has spoken of the need for the people to have “good values and love in their hearts.”
The younger generation, the Prime Minister said, must be guided correctly by their parents and teachers.
“We need good teachers. Good teachers will inculcate good values among all.
“Parents must also teach their children to behave and be good,” he said during a dinner with the Chinese community at the SJK(C) Pei Yu here last night.
Abdullah, who is the Kepala Batas MP, urged teachers to not merely focus on academic excellence.
“We must teach the youngsters to love the country and respect others. I want the future generation to have good hearts. Unity must be our strength,” he stressed.
Driving home his point, the Prime Minister said that there was no use having intelligent people who lied.
“We want to nurture bright people with good intentions. This is important for the future of the country,” he reiterated.
Abdullah said Malaysians were generally a peaceful lot because people did not want to quarrel and they preferred to live in a peaceful and safe environment.
He singled out the multi-racial community in Kepala Batas as a group who had been living in peace and harmony for decades.
